Businesses like to get new customers, and keep the ones that they have. For a business like a coffee shop, which is more important, attracting new customers or keeping the ones you have?
Also, why do customers continue to stay with a certain business, such as a coffee shop?
What causes them to change to another one, and what can you do to try and keep your customers returning to your place of business?

if our business is going well, keeping customers we have is more important but if not, we should think the way to get new customers. what makes custmers stay with one business is I think comfort. whennver I go to outside of Japan, I look for Star bucks because I know how thier coffee taste. I dont need to worry about to choose which drink I should get. so comfort is most important to keep customers. in other way, changing our Menu so much could be losing our custmers. steady customers come because we have what they want. since we lose it, they will find we are not their place to go any more. once we lose our custmer, it is diffecult to get them back. we should consider why they used to use our shop. find the reason and adjust it.

I think price is so important to attract customers because everyone wants to buy good one at cheapest price. This is natural for people. So, if we can keep selling good taste coffee at cheaper price than other coffee stores, we can keep customers whom we had.
Next, I think if we make customers tired of our coffee’s taste, they’ll change to another one so we have to try not to make them tired. In order to do this, we have to try again and again to make new and better taste coffees and sell it as cheaply as we can. This is also what we have to do to make customers return to our store.

Takeshi,
But you know Starbucks is not the cheapest place around, right?
They do change their coffee specials, but they keep most of the regular flavored drinks the same. Actually when I go to one, I usually always order the same thing (I’ll let you guess what that is).
I agree Emiko, some of it is a comfort factor, though some customers also want to feel like a place is a local place rather than a chain.
How do chains work to make customers comfotable even when the sameness starts to get boring?

caring about the customers we already have is more important than getting new customers because even though the shops catch many new customers, of course, this try is important, it is much more meaningful to make a lot of repeaters by caring about customers the shops have. further more, they sometimes bring their friends to the coffee shops.
the reason why customers stick to a certain shop is because people tend to like to go a place where they can relax. people usually gey nervous when they go to some new places.
However, people like to try new one for a change because it is boring to go same place everyday. I think that it is inevitable, but I know a way to keep customers. it is establishing good relationship with the customers that helps them stay at your shop.

I agree with you, making a relationship is important, something that is harder to do at chain shops.
